Determined to continue her fight!
Lisa has 2 sisters and a brother, John, Madonna, and Cindy, all of whom are medical professionals. You would think with a close family and these educated siblings that Lisa would not have been misdiagnosed, but unfortunately, she was. Lisa didn’t tell any of us that she was having rectal bleeding, because she related the bleeding to what her physician told her, which was simply, she had hemorrhoids, after all she was young. My sister Lisa could have been saved if early detection had discovered this festering disease. This did not have to happen. Part of what our family fights for, Lisa’s Mother, Father and Husband Dave, in-laws Debbie, Michael and Ed, is to educate people about colon cancer, so that no one has to suffer needlessly from this disease. We would like family’s to be proactive about their health, taking great care of their greatest asset, their bodies. This includes getting a second opinion from another physician, just to be sure. Our family works year round to do anything we can to promote education about this very serious issue. We would welcome any of your stories about your own families. Creating a means for communication would be extremely helpful, for us and for anyone who would like to discuss this issue. Last year we raised 17 thousand dollars for colon cancer research and this year we raised 25 thousand dollars from your generous donations and participation. Now we can contribute something which does not cost anything and can save lives from today on and that is by education. Mission Statement The mission of Lisa's Legacy is to obtain funding for colorectal research, education and prevention. We are committed to enriching the lives and health of people in the WNY communtiy and eventually worldwide. Our intent is to raise money for this cause by holding an annual 5k run/walk. Lisa considered her health and treatment from every dimension...physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional. One of her final remarks to her doctor was that she hoped her case would help others, even if it was only one person. As Lisa's family we remain steadfast in our commitment to continue this fight for others. Currently there is no 5K run in WNY to solely benefit colorectal research. On May 12th, 2006, the 1st annual Lisa's Legacy 5k Run was held, donating $17.000.00 of the proceeds to Colorectal Research. Lisa's family invites you to contribute to this endeavor in any fashion.
